The Power of Early: Honoring Those Who Make It Possible

Every day, early care and education providers show up for children and families in ways that shape our entire community. Their work is often quiet, but it is always essential. It is at the heart of what we celebrate on Child Care Provider Appreciation Day, recognized this year on May 8.

As part of the Power of Early campaign, we’re taking this moment not just to say thank you, but to elevate a deeper understanding of what child care providers truly make possible.

Early care and education professionals support children during the most critical years of brain development, helping build the social, emotional, and cognitive foundations that last a lifetime. At the same time, they support families by making it possible for parents to work, pursue education, and contribute to the economy.

In Kent County, that impact was formally recognized when Commissioner Robert S. Womack read a proclamation declaring May 8 as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day.

This recognition reflects what families already know: when providers are supported and valued, children thrive, families are stronger, and communities grow.

But appreciation shouldn’t be limited to a single day.

That’s why, throughout the month, we’re inviting the community to join us in recognizing the power of early care and education. Through stories, social media, and shared messages, we can help more people understand the expertise, dedication, and care that providers bring to their work every day.

To the early childhood educators, thank you. Your work is foundational, your impact is lasting, and your role is essential.
